BIOGRAPHY
David is currently writing a book on the traditional painting materials and techniques of medieval and renaissance schools.
David Cranswick is an accomplished and award winning artist with a doctorate in Fine Art from the Royal Academy of Art, London. He is a tutor in traditional painting materials and techniques at the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts in London. David lectures internationally and has taught painting and traditional craft techniques for over thirty years.
In his attempts to pass on his knowledge and passion for this subject he is currently writing a book on the traditional painting practices of master renaissance artists.
David is personal drawing tutor to HRH Prince Michael of Kent.
David is artist in residence at Cowdray House, West Sussex.
1989/91 – Tutor in traditional painting methods and materials
at the Royal College of Art, London
Since 1989 David has been lecturing internationally on medieval and renaissance painting methods.
David has been lecturing at the Princes School of Traditional Arts (formerly VITA) for over twenty five years. He is an M.A tutor and a PhD supervisor.
David is personal drawing tutor to Prince Michael of Kent & Prince Albert Esiri.
1979 Royal Academy of Arts: First prize for portraiture.
Second prize for painting of the nude.
1981 The Elizabeth Greenshields Canadian Scholarship
1978/81 Post-graduate degree course, Royal Academy of Arts, London
1986/90 Served 4 years apprenticeship with the artist Cecil Collins
1999 Received a doctorate for his research on the recipes and techniques of master European painters between 13th and 17th C. University of Wales.
